King meets with World Leaders and Officials in Seoul Summit

Seoul - His Majesty King Abdullah II met during his participation in the working sessions of the Nuclear Security Summit in Seoul, a number of world leaders, officials and heads of the participating delegations in the presence of His Royal Highness Crown Prince Al Hussein bin Abdullah II.

The King met with Russian President Dmitry Medvedev and reviewed means of forging closer ties between the two countries in various fields as well as the latest developments in the Middle East.

The two leaders also discussed the situation in Syria and affirmed the need to end the cycle of violence and find a political solution to the crisis. They also stressed the need to support mission of the UN and Arab League's envoy Kofi Anan to avert more bloodshed in Syria.

His Majesty highlighted the importance of the Russian foreign minister's meeting with his Arab counterparts in Cairo on March 10, which tackled the situation in Syria  and means to  bring views closer to arrive at a political solution that preserves Syria's unity and stability.

The King and Medvedev also discussed the peace process and called on the Palestinians and Israelis to return to the negotiating table to ensure the establishment of an independent and viable Palestinian  state that fulfills aspirations of the Palestinian people, bring about peace in the region and address all final status issues which is a top priority for Jordan.

At the meeting, which was attended by top officials from both sides, His Majesty and the Russian president also discussed bilateral ties and means of further boosting them, mainly in economic and investment fields.

King Abdullah also met with US President Barack Obama at a working luncheon and reviewed Jordanian-US ties, developments in the region, situation in Syria as well as the peace process.

His Majesty also reviewed with Pakistani Prime Minister Yousuf Gilani means of forging closer cooperation between Jordan and Pakistan in various domains.

The King reviewed regional issues, mainly the peace process, highlighting the role that could be played by Pakistan to support the legitimate rights of Palestinians, push peace forward and achieve regional stability as Pakistan is a non-permanent member in the UN Security Council for 2012-2013.

The meeting, which was attended by Nasser Judeh, Director of the King's Office Imad Fakhoury and Jordan's Ambassador in Seoul Omar Nahar, also dealt with issues of concern to the Islamic world.

The King and Gilani stressed the need to continue coordination and consultation on issues of concern to the Islamic nation and activating institutional work among Islamic countries to overcome challenges facing them.

His Majesty also held a meeting  with UN Secretary General Ban Ki-moon and reviewed current developments in the Middle East, mainly the peace process, situation in Syria as well as mission of the UN and Arab League's envoy Kofi Anan in Syria.

The King and the UN chief discussed efforts to bring about peace in the region and arrive at  a just and permanent solution to the Palestinian issue on the basis of the two-state solution and international legitimacy resolutions

King Abdullah emphasized the importance of the UN's role in supporting peace making as well as in intensifying efforts of the international community to end the crisis in Syria.

His Majesty also reviewed the ramifications and negative impact on the situation in Syria on Jordan's economy.

The UN chief valued efforts of His Majesty to achieve comprehensive reforms n the political, economic and social fields as well as the King's role to bring about security and stability in the Middle East.

The meeting was attended His Royal Highness Prince Zeid Bin Raad, Foreign Minister Nasser Judeh, Director of the King's Office Imad Fakhoury as well as Jordan's Ambassador in Seoul Omar Nahar.
